The Judgment
Fire above heaven, its light shining high and reaching all things — Great Possession is about abundance, wealth, and holding much. It is not merely having a great deal, but holding it well, with a clear eye. Tradition calls it supreme success: when clarity rides above and strength lies below, capability paired with clear judgment can carry the whole situation. The tone now is harvest and responsibility: you may be in a time when resources, energy, or results are all plentiful, and the question is less how much more you can take than how you keep, use, and share it. True wealth is capacity together with breadth of spirit. What is the abundance in your hands meant to accomplish — and how will you keep from being tied down by it in turn?
The Six Lines
First line
Still at the start of abundance, not yet entangled with anything harmful, you are without fault in yourself. This line asks you to think of difficulty within plenty: precisely because you hold much, stay alert to hidden risk. Keep that caution and avoid getting tangled with harmful people and affairs, and the abundance stays steadily in your hands.
Second line
Like a strong, large wagon able to carry heavy loads, you have the capacity to move toward your goal. This line is about carrying power: when your strength is enough to shoulder responsibility, it suits you to take on a larger task. As big as the wagon, so big the load it bears — this is a time you can advance with confidence.
Third line
One with means is willing to bring out their abundance and offer it to a larger common purpose, rather than hoarding it privately. This line is about being rich and knowing how to give: those who truly understand having put their resources toward what benefits many. The small-hearted, out only to fatten themselves, cannot carry so great a possession.
Fourth line
Holding much, yet knowing not to flaunt it or show off to excess, you meet no fault. This line is about restraint at the height: the more abundant you are, the more easily you draw comparison and envy. A willingness to soften your edge and lower your stance actually makes the abundance steadier and more lasting.
Fifth line
Meeting others with sincerity, trusted in return, while keeping a bearing that commands respect — this is a fine position. This line is about firmness within gentleness: a true heart toward people does not mean no measure. A balance of the approachable and the respected lets you win people's hearts within abundance and still hold your standing.
Top line
As if graced with heaven's protection, everything runs smoothly and nothing is not furthered. This line is the fulfillment of great possession — yet its blessing does not come from nowhere. It is the return on the humility, sincerity, and gladness in sharing built up in the lines before. When you carry wealth with virtue, good fortune naturally follows. This line reminds you that true protection comes from how you treat the abundance in your hands.
Reading the Change
Great Possession is about abundance and holding much; from the first line to the top, it moves through thinking of difficulty within plenty, shouldering responsibility, gladness in sharing, and being graced through humility. When a line changes, the abundance loosens at one particular stage. A change low down usually asks you to keep your caution and carry what is yours to carry; a change up top is about letting humility and sincerity make good fortune last. Read where the changing line falls, then the resulting hexagram, and you know whether this wealth is moving toward the secure or toward slipping away.
